How High the Moon

Inheriting a typical open-plan office, we needed to add a new door dividing the client-facing and working areas. Instead of introducing a hard barrier, we wanted to rethink the door as an in-between space that can give identity to the otherwise nondescript office.

A circular plan enclosed by curtains allows the relationship between the two adjoining spaces to be finely adjusted, ranging from definitive separation to complete continuity. The transitional moment is marked by a moon-like orb, encouraging a moment of pause.

The soft structure of the curtain is carefully considered - with internal cords hidden inside the tracks to produce precise and regular waves in the fabric, and the curtain-to-track connection concealed to create the illusion of floating fabric, akin to the magician’s handkerchief before the moment of reveal.
